Adjustment | Fort Worth Lifestyle Newborn Photographer
Becoming a first time parent is a huge adjustment. I can remember those early days with our daughter so well. In some ways it seems like yesterday. In others, it seems like an eternity ago.
I remember holding her for the first time in the recovery room. I remember the nurse asking me if I was ready to try breast feeding. I told her that yes, I was ready to try it out. And then she handed me the baby and just looked at me. Like I was supposed to know what to do next. I literally just stared at the nurse. Like I was a deer in headlights. All of the parenting books I had read and classes I had taken all went out the window in that moment and I realized that no amount of “education” could have prepared me for nursing my child for the first time. I was 100% completely and utterly clueless.
I felt like that a LOT in those early months. On a daily basis I was completely humbled by just how unprepared I was. I was constantly confused, scared, exhausted and unsure of what I was doing. In working with so many new parents over the years I have found that my experience is no different from anyone else.
So many new parents spend 10 months preparing for this brand new baby and then they arrive and Mom and Dad are completely clueless. The magical thing about it is that we all figure it out. And we all do it a little differently.
Parenthood is a wild ride. And I am SO LUCKY that I get to capture the beginning for so many families. This gorgeous girl welcomed their baby girl and I was thrilled to capture them both in the hospital and a few weeks later at home. And let me tell you, if was so fun to see how much more confidence these parents had between those two sessions!
